Resolution mine plans pipeline to transport copper concentrate slurry in Arizona-The 17th China(Guangzhou) International Tube&Pipe Expo 1/26/2016 Tube&Pipe exhibition |

Tri Valley Central reported that copper ore from the proposed Resolution Mine near Superior is to be mixed with water and sent 20 miles by pipeline to an isolated location north of Florence, where it would be filtered and shipped out for processing. The Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended approval of the copper concentrate filter plant and transfer facility with stipulations. Resolution Copper and county planning staff are working on a roadway development agreement before the rezoning request goes before the Board of Supervisors for final approval.
The company is seeking to rezone 560 acres at Skyline Drive and the Magma Arizona Railroad Co. tracks from Single Family Residential and General Business to Industrial Planned Area Development, or I-3.
The location is approximately 10 miles from downtown Florence but is not directly accessible by car from Arizona 79; traffic must come through San Tan Valley to reach the site. No more than a dozen employees would work at the site.
The slurry coming down the pipeline would be ¡°a mixture of copper minerals and water¡± and ¡°is not a noxious use of any kind,¡± according to the zoning application.
Resolution spokesman William Tanner said it¡¯s the mine¡¯s best option for shipping its copper ore. He said ¡°At full production, Resolution Copper will produce more than two million tons per year of copper concentrate. Because the volume of copper concentrate is quite large, the environmentally preferred method of shipment is via pipeline.¡±
The property near Superior, believed to be one of the world¡¯s largest undeveloped copper reserves, is expected to be active for 40 years, or a total of 60 years including construction and post-mining reclamation.
