The UK has signed regulations on March 1 banning all Russian-owned, operated, controlled, chartered, registered, or Russian-flagged ships from entering UK ports.
The regulation is part of a broad suspension of shipping in response to Russia''s invasion of Ukraine. However, the ban does not include Russian cargo or goods carried on ships not controlled by Russia.
UK ports handled more than 12.6 million tons of cargo to or from Russia in 2020, with more than half of the imports being liquid bulk cargoes such as crude oil and refined products. The sanctions have heightened tensions over business and trade with Russia.
