AISA & SMA disappoints on extension of US steel tariff exemption- The 19th China (Guangzhou ) Int’l tube & pipe Processing Equipment Exhibition

According to the report, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Steel Manufacturers Associations (SMA) currently discussed that the Unite States (US) extended temporary Section 232 tariff exemptions for one month.
However, some members disappointed the determination. Some market participants indicated that the US government would track the import quota or tariff negotiation, which might delay the negotiation process.
The AISI and the SMA stressed that the US government helped the domestic steel industry to achieve by 80% capacity utilization through adopt the permanent trade measure, otherwise the industry couldn’t create the opportunity.
Some experts said that the steel industry would not abolish imports, and they expected to set the standard of import quota and make market more active.
