A report by the Tehran Times claims that Iran''s crude steel exports have increased 16% over the four-month period from 21 March to 22 July 2018 when compared with the same period in 2017, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
Iran exported 2.487Mt of crude steel during the four months of this year, while the figure for last year was 2.138Mt.
Iranian steelmakers produced 8.279Mt of crude steel during the aforementioned four-month period, up 17% on last year, according to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organisation (IMIDRO).
IMIDRO data for Iranian crude steel production between March and July 2017 was 7Mt.
Industry Minister Mohammad Shariatmadari said that Iran produces 34Mt/yr of crude steel and hopes to produce 55Mt by 2025. However, to achieve that, the country needs to attract investment of EUR8 billion.
According to Shariatmadari, Iran exports 9Mt of crude steel per annum and wants to export up to 15Mt by 2025.
