Alliance Steel Sdn Bhd is being investigated by the National Water Services Commission following accusations that it stole nearly RM500,000 worth of water. SPAN Eastern Region head Ms Arni Shahrina Shaharum said that a raid was conducted on May 16 where they cut off the water supply. She said that Alliance Steel is being investigated under Section 45 of the Water Services Industry Act for the construction of a water supply system without approval.
Ms Arni said that “Alliance Steel paid RM500,000 for the amount of water that has been stolen for more than 90 days since February. They then applied for the temporary water supply and paid the first installment of 10% of the water contribution supply fee, but we found out on Monday (May 21) that they had reconnected the water supply when approval had not yet been given."
If found guilty, those responsible face a fine of RM500,000 and a jail term of no more than five years.
Alliance Steel is one of the investors in the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park.
