It is reported that Tata Steel discussed with German steelmaker Thyssenkrupp AG for the possibility of a joint venture in Europe.
Koushik Chatterjee, Tata Steel Group''s executive director of finance & corporate said his company having a conversation on a strategic consolidation in the European steel industry, part of the conversation is that they look at assets and business on both sides and see how it works. However, it is yet to decide the stake that Tata Steel and Thyssenkrupp will have in the new joint venture.
Thyssenkrupp India''s spokeperson K Raghunath said his company is extremely interested in consolidation, taking to several players including Tata Steel.
Tata Steel is the second largest steelmaker in Europe with annual capacity of 18 millon tons after it acquired Corus while Thyssenkrupp AG Steel’s European operations has sales of 8.6 billion euros and employs 27,600 people.
