Press Trust of India reported that copper futures went up by 0.35 per cent to Rs 340.40 per kg today as speculators widened bets supported by pick up in domestic demand. However, the metal weakened overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April was up Rs 1.20, or 0.35 per cent, at Rs 340.40 per kg in a business turnover of 2,097 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in far-month June inched up 95 paise, or 0.28 per cent, to Rs 344.60 per kg in 31 lots.

Analysts said a rising demand from consuming industries at the doemstic spot markets mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade here but weakness in metal at the London Metal Exchange (LME),capped the gains.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months retreated 1 per cent to USD 4,978 per tonne at the LME.
