Chile, the world''s largest copper producer, was expected to produce more than 6 million tons of copper in 2019 for the first time and continue to grow by about 30% over the next decade, according to the Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco).
Cochilco said copper production was likely to hit a record 7.25 million tons in early 2025 due to the expansion of new projects. The expansion of new copper projects will also offset the gradual decline in ore grades. It warned that output could only grow if the latest round of mining investment materialized.
Codelco, Chile''s state-owned miner and the world''s largest copper producer, recently launched a US$39 billion and 10-year investment plan to boost productivity at its mines.
