The recent trade war has caused market panic, but copper producers have spent billions of dollars in the investment plan, which hasn''t been affected.
According to the Chilean Minister of Mining, Canadian Teck Resources Limited will expand the Quebrada Blanca mine in November, with a cost of US$5 billion. The expansion project was one of five large copper projects in Chile and was approved for environmental issue. It was currently awaiting final approval by the board of directors.
Other projects included Antofagasta plc''s investment in Los Pelambres, which cost US$1.3 billion, and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.''s investment in Sierra Gorda, with a cost of US$2 billion.
