The originally stagnated US$5 billion copper mine project was expected to be re-launched after the US construction company Fluor subcontracted earthwork of Quellaveco copper mine in Peru to the local company Grana y Montero.
Peru''s Quellaveco could produce 225,000 tons of copper per year, and owned development license, but this project has been stagnant since 2013. Grana stated that they had won Fluor''s bid for US$53.9 million, and worked on Anglo American Group''s Quellaveco copper mine, expected to last 16 months.
The US Fluor won the contract in 2014 to provide construction management and pre-project execution for the Quellaveco copper project in Peru. However, Fluor and Anglo American have not yet presented positive response to the Quellaveco copper project.
