BHP Billiton, the largest miner in the world, said in the Escondida copper mine in Chile that it has invited the major trade union groups to negotiate the new collective labor contracts (CLA).
The miners of the Escondida struck last year for more than a month. The union chose to continue the previous labor contract until July 31st this year instead of re-signing finally.
Therefore, the new round of negotiations was expected to be proceeded in June, but BHP Billiton said it hoped to start negotiations ahead of time.
