ZNB reported that Zambia¡¯s Minister of Mines and Mineral Development Mr Christopher Yaluma says government targets to increase copper production from last year¡¯s 7 hundred 10 thousand tonnes to over 8 hundred thousand metric tons this year. Mr Yaluma says government has made various interventions such as consistent policies, consultations with investors on the mineral royalty tax and dialogue with stakeholders such as the chamber of mines.

He disclosed that some of the interventions are taking effect as seen from an increase in Chinese funding towards the mining sector from 29 million to over 110 million yuan for the mapping exercise.

The Minister was speaking in Lusaka after the signing of an MoU with China¡¯s vice minister of lands and resources Zhong Ziran for the extension of a mapping exercise which started in 2010.

Mr Yaluma says mapping is currently being done in Kasama and the MoU will allow for a continuation and an expansion to other parts of the country. He says the sole purpose of the exercises is to support the mining industry unlock the flow of investment into the country.

Mr Yaluma says an invitation has been extended to Zambia by the Chinese government through the vice Minister of Lands and resources to attend the China Mining conference in October this year.
