Vietnamese steel market overview in 2018-The 20th China (Guangzhou) Int’l Spring Industry Exhibition

Based on statistics, in 2018 Vietnam imported steel up to 13.6 million tons, dropping by 9.6% year on year, which were mainly from China, Japan and South Korea. Vietnam''s exported total volume was at 6.3 million tons, an annual increase of 34%, with the main export destinations such as the US, Japan, Cambodia and Thailand.
In recent months, countries have implemented trade tariff barriers to protect their domestic steel industry. As of December last year, total 19 products from Vietnam were subject to anti-dumping investigations by various countries, most of which were steel.
Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam (MOIT) called on Vietnamese exporters to comply with relevant policies of the country origin. On the other hand, the MOIT will strictly review export licenses in order to prevent local and foreign suppliers from using Vietnam as a relay station to transfer non-Vietnamese products.
At present, the US has launched the investigation of anti-dumping and countervailing duty against Vietnam''s corrosion-resistant steel. Canada has also initiated anti-dumping investigation against Vietnamese carbon steel welded pipes. Malaysia began anti-dumping investigation against alloys, non-alloy sheets and galvanized steel coils from Vietnam.
