In Plant Nitrogen Generating Systems¡ªThe 17th China(Guangzhou)Int¡¯l Heat Treatment,Industrial Furnace Exhibition 12/23/2015 Heat Treatment,Industrial Furnace expo |

Recently we have been hearing a lot more about CMS (Carbon Molecular Sieve) systems for producing nitrogen at up to 99.9999% purity and how this newer technology is growing in popularity. We are all familiar with the standard bulk liquid nitrogen tanks outside of every heat treat in the world but is newer nitrogen generating technology liable to replace the bulk tanks we are all so familiar with?
Our experience with nitrogen systems is limited but the general misconception seems to be that in house systems do not create the purity necessary for quenching in a vacuum furnace (which is 99.9999%) but that they do create the 99.5% necessary for purging an endo atmosphere furnace. Well it would appear that the newer CMS technology as opposed to the older membrane systems does offer the purity needed for quenching in vacuum furnaces.
Our knowledge of this technology is again rudimentary at best but based upon what we are hearing we would suggest that we might be seeing a trend towards nitrogen generating systems as opposed to bulk liquid systems purely because of cost. We will be curious to see if this is indeed something the industry will embrace.
