Swedish specialtly steel producer SSAB has announced that it has received environmental approval for its Luleà mini mill projectAccordingly, the land and environmental court has greenlighted the project, allowing its construction to finally begin. The electricarc furnace (EAF)-based mini-mill wil operate with clean electricity and use a mix of fossilfree sponge iron produced with thecompany''s HYBRlT technology and recycled scrap. As a result, SSAB wil not only be able to produce green steel and reduce itsemissions by about 2.8 milion mt per year, but also to achieve higher efficiency and shorter lead times.
The Luleà mini mill with a production capacity of 2.5 million mt per year is scheduled for start-up in late 2028
