Finland-based global engineering and technology company Metso Outotec Corporation has announced that it has opened a state.of-the-art direct reduced iron (DRl) smelting furnace pilot facility in Pori today, October 25.The new facility built with an investment of e8 milion will allow customer-specific pilot-scale testing to demonstrate the applicabilityand results of Metso''s Outotec@ DRl Smelting Furnace technology, which supports decarbonizing the iron and steel industry, asSteelOrbis previously reported.
The investment into the DRl Smelting Furnace pilot faclity suppors the rapidly increasing customer demand for reliable testinawhen planning a transtion to emissions-free smelung. ihe construction ot the pllot plant and equlpment installatons have goneextremely rapidly and smoothly. Hot commissioning of the equipment willtake place soon, and then we will be ready for custometesting." Mari Lindaren, director of smelting research and development at Metso, said.
