Economic Times reported that Industrial Development Corporation Odisha has issued a show-cause notice to Essar Steel and Essar Power for non-deposit of rent and cess dues to the tune of INR 1.39 crore and INR 25 lakh respectively. In a letter dated July 28, IDCO Chief General Manager responsible for Land gave the companies a month''s notice to pay up or explain why the land allotted to them in Paradip and Jagatsinghpur and should not be cancelled.
The troubled steelmaker has a 12mt pellet plant, a power plant in Odisha and outbid competition to mining rights to an iron ore mine auctioned in March 2016.
The letter points out that five reminders, and it lists them by their dates, have been sent to the company since January this year. The company spokesperson in an email said that "As agreed with the Government authorities, Essar Steel |bse o.4i %| and Essar Power had already made arrangements to clear this payment tomorrow.¡±
Mr Sanjay Singh CMD of IDCO told told ET, the notice was part of several such notices the state government had sent out in an effort to recover dues and square its records.
