One of the most fascinating technologies presented at HK16 wasn't a heat treating technology at all rather Holographic goggles. We were priviledged enough to be able to test the system and while it took a while to understand how it works at the end of the day we were left with the feeling that technology such as this opens a multitude of doors. As an example an untrained worker in the middle of nowhere wearing the goggles would be able to send 3 D images of a furnace from a number of different angles to the service department in Poland who could in turn director the worker as to what needs to be done for repairs.
"Holographic goggles by Microsoft were originally conceived as a top secret project. It''s not a surprise since the AR (Augmented Reality) technologies have been enjoying increasing interest in commercial applications and is among one of the most prominent new technologies global players have been continuously researching and developing. Holographic solutions naturally targeted the gaming market as early adapters. This technology, however, has gained interest among heavy industry representatives, including SECO/WARWICK, a leader in heat treatment solutions. "This is a new era of SECO/WARWICK equipment application - the interaction era. Probably nobody could envision that cyber goggles, which naturally apply to gaming, can be used in the metallurgy industry so soon after the introduction of the technology. The implementation of virtual technology to our production, maintenance and service processes has become reality", says Katarzyna Sawka, SECO/WARWICK Group Marketing Director. HoloLens is a device fitted on the head and equipped with a number of sensors, processor and screen in one. The cyber goggles are designed to implement previously mapped 3D models to the real time view.
