Since the second quarter in 2018, the transaction price of stainless steel in South Korea market has continued to fall, and most steel mills and coil centers have suffered serious losses. Following the third quarter and the fourth quarter in 2018, market demand and price were still sluggish, and the condition has not improved much.
Considering such situation last year, POSCO has continued to maintain ex-factory price since last August, with the intention of stabilizing current market and mainly for the company''s income.
Recently, POSCO mentioned that it will stand January price by considering changes in domestic and foreign market conditions and raw material costs. However, local distributors continued to request cut-price from POSCO and other mills.
Stainless steel prices from China and Indonesia were remained at lower level, South Korean steel mills needed to formulate relevant countermeasures to avoid importing stainless to erode domestic market.
