According to the Jakarta Post''s report on February 8th, the data which was published by IISIA showed that in 2017 Indonesia has imported totally 6.43 million tons of steel, 48% of the country''s whole year steel consumption. In 2015 and 2016, Indonesia has imported respectively 6.85 million tons and 6.49 million tons of steel. The country now has become one of the five major steel import countries in the world.
Now Indonesia consumed 13.4 million tons of steel every year, and it was estimated that in 2025 the figure would go up to 23 million. In order to decrease the dependence of steel importation, the government now has tried to make progress on domestic steel production.
