Last week the Chamber of Industry in Guatemala (CIG) denunciated that there were unfair practices of Chinese steel entering the country, the Latin American Steel Association (ALACERO) added to this warming.
According to the CIG, the flooding of Chinese steel to the country was due to the trade war between the United States and China, which already negatively affected the country''s steel sector, urging the Guatemalan government to take necessary measures in order to protect national industries, including tariff or anti-dumping measures.
According to CIG''s data, during the period of 2011 to 2017 the imports of steel from China registered a significant growth of 395%.
