Norsk Hydro has decided to invest approximately NOK 60 million to upgrade electrolysis cells at the aluminum plant in Årdal, Norway. This upgrade work was scheduled to start in the spring of 2022.
The project will improve the working environment, decrease energy consumption and CO2 emissions during the production process, as well as assist in increasing profitability.
Hydro’s primary aluminum plant in Årdal started production in 1948. This plant has two prebake lines with an annual production capacity of 204,000 tons of primary aluminum, 279,000 tons of casthouse products, and 172,000 tons of anodes.
