The Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) said on January 25th that Japanese crude steel output in 2017 reached around 105 million tons, down by 0.1% year on year, which has been falling for three consecutive years. However, the factors of steel demand in Japan were expected to increase and the output might start to rise in the future.
The JISF said that although the overall market demand was good, the market out significantly reduced due to the fire accident of Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel Corporation (NSSC)¡¯s plant.
Nevertheless, the market demands were driven by Japanese auto manufacturing and industrial machinery, and 2020 Tokyo Olympic would also significantly improve the steel demand in Japanese market.
