Steel Dynamics Inc. believes Vietnam is engaged in circumvention of corrosion-resistant steel products, alleging the products are made from cold-rolled steel and hot-rolled steel substrates from Japan. The Fort Wayne, Ind.-based minimill company filed an application with the U.S. Department of commerce asking for a probe into the claim.
SDI¡¯s petition notes that U.S. imports of cold-rolled steel and hot-rolled steel from Japan dropped tremendously after antidumping duties were imposed in 2015, while the imports of corrosion-resistant steel products from Vietnam have surged.
According to Steel Dynamics¡¯ application, if Vietnam¡¯s corrosion-resistant steel products are confirmed to use Japan¡¯s substrates, these products must be subject to AD duty measures.
