ISSDA looks forward to augmenting stainless steel consumption by 'Smart Cities' projects-The 20th China(Guangzhou)Int'l Stainless Steel Industry Exhibition

It was reported that Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) hoped Indian stainless steel consumption could boom and increase along with urban development and some central infrastructures such as projects of “Smart Cities.”
The president of ISSDA, Mr. KK Pahuja, indicated that there was great potential of Indian stainless steel consumption per capita as global average was 6kg, whereas 2.2kg in India. He also pointed out two issues Indian stainless steel sector was facing. First, India was in lack of some raw materials including stainless steel scrap and ferronickel. Second, there was cheap import products from neighbors as India has signed the Free Trade Agreement with other countries including those who were major stainless steel producers.
The report states that the main consumption sector in India remained utensils and kitchen wares, with amount of 50% or so. Nevertheless, there was emerging consumption and rapid growth in infrastructures and transportation sectors. These developments were expected to drive the consumption of stainless steel.
