Barrett Steel Ltd, one of the UK''s largest independent steel stockholders, is investing in a new General Steels business in the South West.Operating directly from its Bristol-based Barrett Engineering Steel depot, the new business will be known as Barrett Steel South West and will further extend the company''s offering into the South West region of the UK.David Reece, commercial director said, "The new business will offer an extensive range of general steels stock, including merchant bar, structural sections, hollow sections, flat products and a wide range of additional products to support customer requirements. We wanted to help customers in the South West region by giving them a local contact and a local stock facility with the backing of a leading family owned national steel stockholder."An investment of ￡250,000 has been made at the site including a new structural steel saw, racking and enhanced transport fleet. The employee population has also increased by a third and we are actively seeking additional personnel for our commercial and operational teams. The company has ambitious plans to grow further over the coming three to five years."The new business announcement is part of a continuous improvement programme.
