A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Thyssenkrupp’s scrap processing plant was held in Duisburg. This processing plant was part of the REDERS project funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia with EUR 6.4 million. The REDERS project is a steelmaking process with an increased recycling quota to reduce CO2 emissions.
Dr. Arnd Köfler, Chief Technical Officer of Thyssenkrupp, said that the project will allow the company to have rapid progress in reducing CO2 emissions.
The processing plant will produce high-quality recycled products used in Thyssenkrupp blast furnaces. After the plant is completed, up to 260,000 tons of processed bluemint products will be produced per year.
