US DoC Issues Affirmative Preliminary Determination on Imports of Steel Staples from China-2020 China(Guangzhou) Int’l Laser Equipment and Sheet Metal Industry Exhibition

The US Department of Commerce announced an affirmative preliminary determination in the countervailing duty investigation of imports of certain collated steel staples from China, finding that exporters received countervailable subsidies ranging from 12.38 to 156.99%. As a result of today’s decision, Commerce will instruct US Customs and Border Protection to collect cash deposits from importers of steel staples from China based on these preliminary rates.
In 2018, imports of steel staples from China were valued at an estimated USD 88.8 million. The petitioner is Kyocera Senco Industrial Tools, Inc.
Commerce is currently scheduled to announce its final CVD determination by March 18, 2020.
