German employer offer far from adequate - IG Metal

German union IG Metall said that in the fourth negotiation for the steel industry in the north-west, the employers presented an offer which IG Metall considers to be insufficient and a joint expert group will now discuss the entire package in more detail. Knut Giesler, district manager of IG Metall North Rhine-Westphalia and negotiator in D¨¹sseldorf, said "Given the good situation in the steel industry, the volume offered for pay and vacation compensation is far from adequate. IG Metall also demands that all groups of employees can exchange money in time, so it was not possible to go to a final negotiation today, but we recognize that employers basically accept our debt structure."
IG Metall has therefore agreed to provide more detailed advice in a joint expert group on the overall package over the next few days. On the basis of this consultation, the competent bodies will then decide on the further course of the collective bargaining round.
2.5% more money as of April 1, 2019 - that''s what employers offer to around 72,000 employees in the Northwest German iron and steel industry. In addition, according to their offer, there should be an additional annual holiday allowance of 600 euros from 1 July 2020, which can be converted by a limited group of people into time.
The IG Metall demands six percent more money and an additional holiday allowance of 1800 euros, which can be converted into days off. Trainees should get disproportionately more money. In addition, IG Metall intends to extend the collective agreements on partial retirement, job security and contracts for work. |
