South Korean cold-rolled sheet exports increase, imports decline in 2018-2019 China(Guangzhou) Int’l Laser Equipment and Sheet Metal Industry Exhibition

According to Korea Iron and Steel Association (KOSA), the total cold-rolled steel sheet exports were around 3.17 million tons in 2018, 2.2% higher compared to the same period of last year.
South Korea was affected by the trade barrier between the US and Europe, resulting a lower quota of flat products, but the domestic market was still weak, most of mills considered exporting as first priority.
In December 2018, the import quantity totaled only 282,000 tons roughly, a significant decline of 40.9% compared with the same period a year ago. The reduction was due to low domestic steel demand.
Certain South Korean mills said that the import price of cold-rolled steel went down in the end of 2018, but it was estimated the imported quantity will increase in the beginning of 2019.
