South Korean EGI sheet imports & exports rise in Sep-2019 China(Guangzhou) Int’l Laser Equipment and Sheet Metal Industry Exhibition

According to the statistics from the Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA), the exports of South Korean electro-galvanized steel (EGI) sheet totaled around 76,000 tons in September, up by 2.6% compared to the same month a year ago; the imports were around 17,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.8%. In the first 9 months this year, the total exports and imports had the year-on-year increase of 10.4% and 19.3% respectively.
Some market participants thought that the increase in EGI sheet exports was mainly due to the export expansion plan in South Korea which implemented because of weak domestic demand.
However, South Korean export quota to the US has been nearly used up, and the exports of EGI sheet were expected to decrease at the end of this year.
