In the week ending on April 28, 2018, domestic raw steel production was 1,754,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 74.8 percent. Production was 1,721,000 net tons in the week ending April 28, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 73.8 percent. The current week production represents a 1.9 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending April 28, 2018 is down 1.9 percent from the previous week ending April 21, 2018 when production was 1,788,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.3 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through April 28, 2018 was 29,723,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 75.5 percent. That is up 1.6 percent from the 29,252,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.4 percent.
Broken down by districts, here''s production for the week ending April 28, 2018 in thousands of net tons: North East: 207; Great Lakes: 657; Midwest: 163; Southern: 652 and Western: 75 for a total of 1754.
