Severstal, one of the world¡¯s leading vertically integrated steel and mining companies, has signed contracts with Paul Wurth and Danieli Corus for the modernization of blast furnace No. 5 at its plant in Cherepovets.
The total investment of the modernization project is about US$512.725 million, the main purpose which is to prolong the life of BF for 14 years.
In 2018-2019, the plan is to build the auxiliary facilities at the complex. The main technological equipment and equipment for the automated control system will be installed in 2020.
According to the company''s statement, the 5th BF is one of the world''s largest blast furnaces, designed to produce more than 4 million tons a year and provide about 50% of the cast iron for Cherepovets Steel Mill.
