The European Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) announced that global scrap consumption was 560 million tons in 2016, up by 0.9% compared with the same period of last year, and global crude steel production was 1.63 billion tons, up by 0.9% compared with the same period of last year.
The world''s largest importer of scrap steel was Turkey, with a total import volume of 17.716 million tons in 2016, up by 9% compared with the same period of last year. The world''s largest exporter of scrap steel was 28 countries in the EU. The total export volume was 17.807 million tons in 2016.
